Filing scheme creation

Setting up a filing scheme.

Your unit’s filing scheme should apply to all ‘unstructured records’ held by your unit.  Unstructured records include electronic records on computer drives, particular shared drives, and paper files.  Your filing scheme will not apply to ‘structured records’ contained in other systems, such as records held on EUCLID or in the Finance or HR systems.

Skeleton filing scheme

Use the skeleton filing scheme as your starting point (don’t start from scratch).  You will find that the skeleton scheme contains a lot of headings for activities that your unit isn’t involved in, you can delete these from your scheme immediately.  From there it is a matter of amending elements of the skeleton scheme to fit the activities carried out by your unit, and adding the additional detail needed for your unit.
