Retention schedule

How to create or review a retention schedule to decide how long to keep records.

Your unit’s retention schedule should apply to all records held by your unit.  Start by identifying the records you hold.  If you have recently developed/reviewed your filing scheme this is usually the best place to start.  Then map the University-wide retention schedules to what your unit holds.  Identify the gaps and use the guidance on creating a retention schedule to fill the gaps.
