Myth:

"In my course we do group work and I divide all the students into groups. For data protection reasons, we cannot share the lists of the group members in the course." 

Busted: 

That is not true. Within a course, all students know each other and will see, at the latest when the presentations are held, who is in which group. Such lists can be shared without any problem.
